And Rest....

The last two weeks seem to have been an endless round of sore nipples (although much better since the blisters peeled off), wet (and yellow) baby nappies, visitors, playgroups, art classes, training, school runs and ironing.

Sunday we woke up to beautiful sunshine;

And set off for a walk in the woods;

We spotted squirrels;

And crocodiles;

Looked over fences to see what we could see;

And nosied in the river;

A lovely crisp day, wrapped up warm with a small boy strapped to my chest, a slightly bigger boy holding my hand, two lovely girls milling around (and holding hands when no one could see) and a lovely husband who occasionally got to hold my hand too :-)

There is some knitting on the go and the self portrait I have been creating through the Art-as-therapy group is nearly ready for the grand unveiling, christmas gifts have been thought about and half put into action so maybe I'll be back with something I have created, soon?

A Sunny Picnic

We have spent alot of the sunny weekend at home while we have been rearranging and decorating so that the girls will no longer have to share a bedroom with each other (hopefully there will be a pink princess room and a Dr.Who room soon). The children have played and picnicked in the garden (and fought on occassion) inbetween popping in to try on clothes I have found in boxes, some things that used to belong to Elizabeth for Fracesca and some hand-me-down parcels for Elizabeth. Having two big sisters means that Nathaniel has very few hand-me-downs from our family, but does well from friends. He did, however, get some spaceman, some dr.who, and some plane PJs that used to belong to Elizabeth. His favourite find so far has been the blue Miffy socks he found that I took off at bedtime and he insisted on putting back on!!

Today while some paint was drying we decided we should venture further than the back door for today's picnic so we gathered ourselves and headed out to Wycoller Country Park;

The sun was deceptive and the wind was quite chilly so we only sat for a little while to refuel;

Francesca was very pleased when she won control of the crisps;

And we were all very excited when this Mummy duck and her babies strolled past to say hello;

Nathaniel was especially taken with the 'ellow kwak kwak!

We walked through the willow sculptures and through a long tunnel;

We walked, carefully, over several very old stone bridges;

We stopped in the shelter of a cafe courtyard and Elizabeth asked me what this was, help please;

Tall pink flower didn't seem to be a good answer, I will hunt it out for her if no one can help.

We ate ice cream;

Then came home for more painting and sorting.

Eureka! tomorrow, very excited :-)

Sunny Day

While poor Simon has been sealed into the bedroom pulling down walls and ceilings the sun has been beating down so we all went for a walk and left him to it!

We had a swing;

A small impromptu picnic that resulted in me having a wet bottom and in white linen trousers it's not such a good look! Note to self; put a big blanket under pram when next tis sunny!

Francesca wore her new 'crocs' (they are not genuine but they do have flashing flowers on the side and were a bargain at a certain supermarket that is 'Scandinavian for value'), her feet were sweaty and half way through our journey her feet had blisters. Being a terrible mother as I am, I had no plasters on me. Here are some I fashioned out of an old tissue (snotty bits removed) and a sticker that one of them got from the dentist that was screwed up in my purse;

And it was so hot and I was so tired that Elizabeth helped (only for three feet or so) to push the pram home;

Hope you've all had a lovely sunny day too?

Geography Is Not Our Strong Point!!

No amazing makes today, although I've done a quick card shuffle in the nursery 'shop' and emptied the money box. Only two sales this time, obviously not card selling season! :-( I have started knitting Bo's bootees, made an yummy and wholesome minestrone for tea, posted some things on craftjuice and had the most amazing conversation with my middle child on the way to school;

"There's no gravity in Spain is there?" Asked Francesca
"Yes there is, there is gravity all over the planet and that's why we don't fall off."
"No, Mummy, there is no gravity in SPAIN, listen!"
"There is," I repeated.
"No, Mummy listen, there is no gravity in Spain and that's why the rockets can fly and why spacemen can float around and have to wee in bags."
"That's in SPACE, not SPAIN," I tried not to laugh too much as she is a sensitive child.
"What's space then?"
"It's everything outside of our sky," I tried to explain.
"Do you mean the sky that the trees are holding up?"
"Yes, I suppose so,"
"What is Spain then?" Her brain obviously hurting by this time.
"Spain is a place near France."
"Oh, you know lots of things Mummy. Do they really have gravity in Spain cos I don't think they do?"
"Yes they do."
We'd reached school by this point so the conversation ended and I was quite glad truth be told!!

What a Lovely Day!

Blimey, it's a picture of me! Don't get many of those, I'm usually behind the camera!!

We've been at Wycoller Country Park today. We had a lovely walk, fed some ducks, paddled in a (very cold) stream, had a picnic, walked over a prehistoric bridge;

Saw some beautiful mini waterfalls;

Worried that we might be turned into moss (well Elizabeth did) which is why Simon had to sit down first before she parked her bottom to remove a stone from her shoe, much laughter was had by all except Elizabeth;

We spotted a white baby cow having boobie milk from his Mummy cow;

and some very lovely little lambs;

We also had a three mile walk, which was great fun, we saw lots more cows and sheep and lambs close to and they were quite friendly. The only downside of this trip was when we got to a slightly damp bit of the field, we decided to carry on anyway and got lots of mud and cow poo in our crocs, not great I can tell you!! The girls opted to carry on bare foot which was fine until we got back to the stony car park and then Elizabeth wore my crocs (which had dried nicely by then) and Francesca had a ride on Simon's shoulders.

We got in to find an invitation for tea so we hopped in the bath, (didn't imagine for one moment we would be welcomed with dried cow poo between our toes!!), threw on some clean clothes and set off to Lynsey's for a barbecue. It was a very lovely evening, thanks, Lyns!

Babies all tucked up and asleep so am of to bed soon with my new book 'The Friday Night Knitting Club' by Kate Jacobs, a gift from my Mum, thanks, am looking forward to it!

A Family Expedition.

Well the snow didn't arrive, instead we awoke to glorious sunshine and chilly winds. The need for a walk was mighty so we wrapped up warm and set out on a Davies' Expedition!

Here are my lovely men:

Along the way we met an obstacle; a huge tree which must have fallen down in the high winds we had last week. We had lots and lots of fun getting over it to go on our way;

After two hours and maybe as many miles (we only go slow because Francesca's legs are not yet long enough for great speed) we were very cold and snow flakes began to fall from the sky so we made our way home. Boots and jeans needed to be removed at the door, we were very muddy and wet. The girls immediately snuggled down with hot-chocolate and the plan is for a lazy afternoon and we may even watch 'Cats' and have a good old sing-a-long!!

Hoping you are also warm and snug,

Good Egg!

Well the snow was there this morning but wasn't up to much and we ended up spending an age in the bath and then going to have lunch with my Mum and Dad so no long walks in the snow today. It is starting to fall again and hopefully there will be enough to make a snowman (or snowwoman) tomorrow.

We spent so long in the bath because yesterday my Dad arrived with the most amazing Easter egg, not only does it not make you fat or rot your teeth it also makes you smell lovely! It came from lush and is in my favourite fragrance; 'Blue Skies and Fluffy White Clouds'. The bath bomb had seaweed in it too so we pretended to be mermaids!

The children were given far too many chocolate eggs so we melted some down and made crispy cakes with mini eggs on the top, they'll be delicious tomorrow with a hot cuppa when we get in from our long cold walk (if there's any snow)!
Am off now to knit (making a present for my friend's 30th birthday soon) and watch naff telly and maybe help get rid of some of the Easter eggs!
