A Birthday Elephant

Today Nathaniel went to a birthday party, he got a proper invite and everything, it was his first. His lovely friend Erin turned two in the week and we had a little celebratory get together at her home this afternoon with cake and pass the parcel.

I made Erin a smocked dress a while ago as a thank you to her Mum for some kindly donated buttons, Jenny really liked the dress but also liked the fact that I had taken the time to make something myself.

When they came to play the other week Erin was very taken with the elephant I made so on discovering a beautiful cotton print with daisies which came in three colourways at my local fabric mill I thought I should make a 'patchwork' elephant;

I really love the tail on this one, it is very fine ribbon doubled up and very carefully plaited (took me ages).

And becasue I had this yummy fabric in three colourways I thought it would be good to use to try out my Kitschy Coo pattern that I won in a giveaway on Amamda's blog a while ago. When the pattern arrived in the post I really thought it would look good with three coordinating fabrics, one for each of the pieces (sleeve, bodice and neckband). Amanda's instructions were brilliant and I didn't struggle at all and knocked the whole thing out in less than an hour, which included a cup of tea to re-read the instructions once everything was cut out and ready to go. I will definately be making more when little girl's birthdays start cropping up over the summer;

The photo's not too great but the top went down a treat, smiles all round and even more so when Erin realised it matched her elephant!!

Party Day!

And you could tell it is Francesca's party by the hair!!!

We played some games;

I ended up looking like Marge Simpson!!

My team also cheated and emptied the bucket of balls straight into my huge knickers instead of aiming and throwing;

My birthday princess;

And all her lovely birthday princess friends;

The hosts were named Queen Rose and Captain Blue and they completely made the day, thanks!

I know it has been a week since Francesca's birthday but her very bestest friend, Olivia, was born the day before and we never have our parties on the same weekend, that's alot to ask of parents, although it does happen sometimes that we all end up at two parties in two days!

Party Time

So here is a pic of my baby boy enjoying his first 'proper' Christmas party. He met Father Christmas and wasn't overly impressed but had the present anyway! He ate party food in the party hat he made last week and played games with his little friends.

I had to wrestle him out of his hat for his afternoon nap, he really rather likes it and I think it will be making a few more appearances over the next few weeks!

A Lovely Day

Well, although everyone woke up far too early for a Saturday it has been a lovely day.

Here are my babies enjoying cheese on toast (a weekend treat) at breakfast;

And I think we made the princess even more princessish (is that even a word?);

She sat very still and was very good at passing clips while I did her hair. It survived the party too and didn't look too terrible when I went to collect her. I am really glad that she chose to wear her 'wedding' dress as there were duplicate Snow Whites and Belles. They all looked very beautiful though. Happy birthday Ella!

While the princesses were partying Elizabeth was partying on the other side of town. I managed to grab some time to sit while everyone was enjoying themselves and made these;

I get lots of strange looks when I arrive at kids parties with a bag of knitting or some sewing to do but I figure it only makes me all the more interesting. No?

Children all very tired now, they have had some fruit after the party and are on their way to bed soon. Simon and I may even order take out, that would be nice! There is a bottle of wine in the fridge too.......

Have a lovely evening!

Party

Blimey (think I started with that yesteray, must find another clean expletive!) what a lovely day. Am very tired due to much smiling, being kind and patient with other people's children, and not snapping at Elizabeth as she whizzed round the house on a cloud of excitement.

This was last night's birthday cake, a lemon and orange sponge with orange buttercream icing;

I saved the cake 'proper' for the party today. Elizabeth, with some help from Clant, decided on having a Dalek. She wanted it to be blue and here it is;

The plunger and eye could have been better but I was rather pleased with the 'bobbles'. It all tasted rather good too!!

Here are the porcelain trinket boxes and picture frames that the girls painted at the party;

I will bake them in the oven tonight and deliver them one day next week. The girls also made bead bracelets and designed some cards, they are all lovely girls and very artisitic and talented!

Swirly made an Adipose for Elizabeth, needless to say it's brilliant and she loves it;

I didn't realise until it was too late that I hadn't photographed all the girls with their super duper party bags. Here are my girls' bags;

They turn into nifty little rucksack type things, ideal for kit bags for when they go back to school;
