French Fancies

My parents returned from their long summer break at the little house in France yesterday and bought us all some lovely goodies. Mum found me some buttons last time and I was thrilled to bits so this time she bought me back three bags;

I just want to tear open the bags and roll in them but that would be madness, wouldn't it? My parents already think I am quite mad and I didn't really want to reinforce that in their minds.

Both girls got shoes. Francesca got some blue sandals with red flowers on and Elizabeth got some beautiful floral espadrilles. Nathaniel got some lovely blue body suits, now all we need is some sun!

As it was Elizabeth's birthday Mum and Dad also bought her a wonderful little outfit. Striped leggings, a long tunic and the most amazing little jacket. Here is a close up of the jacket and the little rag dolly brooch that is on it;

I think I may have surprised her when I took this pic?!

Dentist tomorrow morning, oh joy!

Making Stuff

Here are the amazing goodies that Jenny sent to cheer me up, what a love!

The 'Stitch' magazine has some wonderful ideas in it, perfect for Christmas gifts (OMG, Christmas is coming)! Lovely oriental character stickers, sparkly pink corners (Francesca has her eagle eye on these), and a little pack of ribbon bits and beads and a sherbet dib-dab thingie.

I have had a day of making things, Nataniel has mostly slept, think it's what he needs. Francesca and I had an afternoon at the table making a cushion for Elizabeth's teacher (to go on the new chair in the class room);

This is the card I made as a thank you for having Elizabeth this year, Miss Hall is wonderful and I hope she gets Francesca in Y1 because she's brilliant;

It's a pretend clip board and I have put the teacher's name at the top and done ten spellings (wonderful, caring, kind etc), marked them all right with a big tick and put ten out of ten at the bottom and a well done sticker. It's a shame the picture's not better as am rather pleased with it.

I also made a card for Cara (Saturday party girl) with a decoupage "lily of the valley" fairy that I got in a kit. Don't usually do decoupage but I got the bug and made this puddle duck one for a little girl who will be seven on Saturday;

I got the stamp free on a magazine a bit ago and haven't used it before, I stamped four ducks in black and coloured them in with soft pencils. I trimmed each image differently and layered them up (can't really see this in pic). Mounted them on some pearly pink paper and then on torn handmade paper and fluffed the edges. I finished the card with a broad pink ribbon threaded through the spine and tied in a bow at the front.

Off to do some more knitting now, cardigans don't grow on trees you know!!

New Project......

Firstly a quick update on Swirly; nothing to report unfortunately. She has had an x-ray and an ultra sound scan and they haven't yet decided what is wrong or what they are going to do about it. They are going to keep her until tomorrow and observe her (that sounds scary). At least she can eat now!! Mr. Swirl has been and delivered some crafting for her to do so she doesn't get too bored!

Now here is a pic of the start of my next project for a birthday present.

Francesca has been invited to Cara's party on the 19th and I hope that the lack of crafting time this week doesn't continue or it'll never get done! There is something really yummy about pink gingham for a summer birthday. Am really excited about this project. I have seen similar things done by other people and want to put the Daisie Davies stamp on it.

Here are some felt teds with tiny buttons and bows on their chests. I admired them when visiting KaeKae's Mum yesterday. They were attached to a paper gift bag. She dropped by with them today for me, how nice is that! I have earmarked one for a new baby card that needs making soon and have thought of how to incorporate one into the birthday project. One ted in need of a use, any suggestions?!

And finally before I go and get the sewing machine out is a pic of Elizabeth's new hair;

A Little Cottage.

Here are the walls;

Here are the windows;

Here is a little house;

Looks like Swirly was right! I have knitted a tiny wee cottage tea cosy for my mother-in-law. Am really pleased with it. I had to buy a teapot for her as I measured her everyday pot when we visited at the weekend and the walls I had already knitted were too small! Note to self; measure pot before starting project next time.
I have put the pot in it's cosy and put it in a straw basket, the tag simply says; "A little cottage for your little cottage" Hope she likes it.

Here it is with her other present and a cake that Francesca and I have made for later. Francesca complained that there was only one candle but I fear it may be a fire hazard if she had one for every year (she is 21 after all!).

I made her card with a peel off stained glass window circle that I have coloured over acetate and then mounted on torn handmade paper square. I would show you but it's in the oven drying, ran out of time as usual!!

Spaghetti bolognaise is awaiting her arrival. Good food, cake, hand crafted presents, am I the best daughter-in-law in the world or what?!

Another Clue.......

These are the other materials I will be using to create my mother-in-law's present;

It's coming along quite nicely but I will be knitting like mad tonight as she is joining us for tea tomorrow (argh, thought I had until Thursday)!!

A thrilling (NOT) day here as Francesca and I are off to the dentist, she woke this morning with tooth ache :-( poor baby! I am filled with guilt. I feel like the worst mother in the world, I allow her sweets and drinks other than water (am a very bad mother indeed)!! I brush them everyday and we all go to the dentist twice a year and still they (the people in whte jackets and splash proof goggles) make me feel it is all my fault. It is of course, sorry Francesca!!

On the plus side, the sun is shining!!

Can You Guess What It Is Yet?!

Here are some of the materials I am using for my next knitting project;

I will post a picture of the other things I will be using tomorrow.

If anyone* can guess what it is I'm making; I'll make another one just for you!!

The only clue I am willing to give is that it's a gift for my mother-in-law's birthday.

She will have the completed gift by Thursday so check back then and see if you were right!!

One Size Fits All

Morning, sorry I didn't get back yesterday (well I did but the internet was down, bah!)

In my huge box of goodies was a tear drop shaped paper punch, it's an X-Cut for those of you that know about these things and I didn't want to let it go but couldn't think of what to use it for. So I cut lots from some swirly handmade paper and then cut some from some lovely metalic green and made this;

I didn't crop this picture like I usually do because you can see my rather groovy purple knitting needle bracelet that Swirly made for me! I love it and it gets lots of comments. And you can't see my lovely button ring that Jenny made for me on the other hand - I am truly a crafty person on so many levels!!

And here is a lovely thing that Kae-Lei brought me back from her weekend away where she celebrated her 8th birthday. A thank you for the present I made her. Think it says it all really, don't you?
