What a Lovely Day!

Blimey, it's a picture of me! Don't get many of those, I'm usually behind the camera!!




We've been at Wycoller Country Park today. We had a lovely walk, fed some ducks, paddled in a (very cold) stream, had a picnic, walked over a prehistoric bridge;



Saw some beautiful mini waterfalls;

Worried that we might be turned into moss (well Elizabeth did) which is why Simon had to sit down first before she parked her bottom to remove a stone from her shoe, much laughter was had by all except Elizabeth;

We spotted a white baby cow having boobie milk from his Mummy cow;

and some very lovely little lambs;

We also had a three mile walk, which was great fun, we saw lots more cows and sheep and lambs close to and they were quite friendly. The only downside of this trip was when we got to a slightly damp bit of the field, we decided to carry on anyway and got lots of mud and cow poo in our crocs, not great I can tell you!! The girls opted to carry on bare foot which was fine until we got back to the stony car park and then Elizabeth wore my crocs (which had dried nicely by then) and Francesca had a ride on Simon's shoulders.

We got in to find an invitation for tea so we hopped in the bath, (didn't imagine for one moment we would be welcomed with dried cow poo between our toes!!), threw on some clean clothes and set off to Lynsey's for a barbecue. It was a very lovely evening, thanks, Lyns!

Babies all tucked up and asleep so am of to bed soon with my new book 'The Friday Night Knitting Club' by Kate Jacobs, a gift from my Mum, thanks, am looking forward to it!

Knackered and Forgetful!

OMG, can't believe I forgot Richard Hammond! Think I may have momentarily lost my mind (only momentarily? I hear you all cry). Who better to spend the first two weeks on a desert island with?! Yummy yummy hamster!

Also a big hug to his Mummy Alison who is worried and tired, we're thinking of you here in the Davies' household!

I've Been Tagged......

I have been tagged by the lovely Twiggy but more about that in a bit.

Haven't blogged much this week as it has been lovely and sunny and we have spent much time in the sun! Nathaniel is a bit poorly, we have had less than ten hours sleep in the last three days and it is telling - Elizabeth has just asked me why Twiggy has a blue line under it and I explained that it's a hyperlink and that when it's on the internet people can click on it and it will take them to Bloggy's Twig oh how we laughed - he is full of a 'cold' and is mucus on a stick (if you will) and his teeth are sore and well he's in training to be a man, what more can I say.

Thursday night was the worst and I spent most of the night rocking him and walking about the house trying to distract him and not disturb anyone else. Simon got up at 5am to do some paper work so Nathaniel and I joined him downstairs and his basket of toys was a brilliant distraction, he played away quite happily while I made Elizabeth a hat for school. I made them both floppy floral hats last year but while in the fabric shop we spotted some green gingham (same as her school summer dresses) and I had to buy some to make her a school hat. Well, the sun wasn't anywhere to be seen then so I put it away and then when the sun came out this week I just haven't had time, until 5am on Friday morning. I made her a felt leaf badge to hold up the brim but realised when I put the hat on her and tried to pin it on that in my knackeredness I had sewn the safety pin (not expensive brooch backs for family) on the wrong way so it wouldn't pin on, DER! so I had to quickly tack it on before school. She was highly pleased and looked rather smart. Good bit of advertising me thinks.....?

Now, being tagged, it's a first for me. There are seven questions I have to answer and here they are;

1. If a movie was being made of your life who would you like to be cast to play yourself and why?

Why, oh why would anyone make a movie about me?! Not sure who I would choose but if you asked Simon he would say Catherine Zeta Jones as (apparently) she's the only woman as beautiful as me and he can see a likeness? Poor befuddled fool.

2. You are spending a whole month on a desert island for charity, and you have to choose your favourite celebrity to spend the first two weeks with you and & your least favourite celebrity to spend the second two weeks with, who would they be and why?

I would have difficulty choosing (am very bad at decisions, can you tell?) but would like to spend time with Daniel Craig (to look at if nothing else), Dermot O'Leary (same applies), Russel Brand or Graham Norton for laughs and general slagging off of other celebs! The second week would have to be Gina Ford or some other baby hating monster!!

3. What are your 3 favourite crafting products?

Paper, you can do so much with it, fabric, ditto and buttons because nobody should have to live without them!

4. If you could invent something what do you think it would be?

Some device to enable the smooth and even distribution of marmite on toast. Nigella mixes hers with a pat of butter until it is an even caramel colour and then keeps it in the fridge to use when she's in need of marmite toast. Thought this a brilliant idea but have never got around to doing it and it would be so good to be loved by half the population and hated by the other, haha!

5.What are the last 3 books that you read?

How To Kill Your Husband (and other handy household hints) by Kathy Lette.

Camberwell Beauty by Jenny Eclair (she could be a contender for the first week of my desert island holiday).

The Secret Mothers' Club by Joanne Fedler - best read I've had in a long time, highly recommend it for people with small children.

I used to read alot but now with three babies and very little time I tend to climb into bed not with my book as was once the case but crawl into bed and fall asleep (until someone wakes and needs me). I also read bubble gum for the brain type books these days, I like a read that I don't need to concentrate on!

6. QVC or Create and Craft?

I love to watch both and often have them on in the evening when doing ironing or sewing by hand or at the weekend when there is not much else on and I need to have something to keep me awake in the afternoon when I sit down for Nathaniel to have a boobie. I drool over die cutting machines and sewing machines and I love the paper product shows as I gather lots of ideas. I have never bought anything from either channel as it's just too expensive and am sure I could get it cheaper somewhere else!!

7. What is your claim to fame?

Quite a good one this. Bruce Forsyth (nice to see you, to see you.... etc) drove the wedding car when my Nan and Grandad got married (Mum's parents), he was 17 at the time and worked for his dad who owned Forsyth's Car Hire in Tottenham.

My brother had a small part in ITV's Children's Ward (years ago) and when filming at Granada he had a wee in the stall next to Kevin Webster from Corrie but that's his claim really and not mine.

My Floors Are Crunchy!

It must be summer as the floors in my house make an amazing crunchy noise under foot. No, we don't have cock roaches but small children who never wipe their feet when coming in from the sandpit!

Been walking alot today in the sun so have very dirty feet (as well as a crunchy floor) so am off for a bath but wanted to show you this cool picture I took of the second card I made for Rohana. The dragon is blue this time and flying in a different style, I have added a bead, think it looks a bit more girlie? The sun must have been behind a cloud as I just realised when I put the pics onto the computer that the flash had gone off, so it looks like two dragons in flight as you can see the shadow behind the drawing (this is the joy of the sparkly window card)!

My Shed Window

Here is my shed window! We've been out in the 'garden' today as the sun has been shining and it's so warm, think summer may have arrived...? The pansies that I planted in this basket about seven years ago come up year after year and look rather good and the tiny scrap of ivy I nicked from my mother-in-law's front garden is coming on rather well too. And tell me this, how many other people do you know that have gingham curtains in their shed!?




We made it to Lancaster Castle yesterday and had a wonderful time. It's very exciting and a bit scary being so near all those prisoners (one of which was being released (we think) as I took this photo);





We set off after our tour of the castle into town to have some lunch and we trawled the charity shops. Not much to be had really; the girls got a goodie bag of hair accessories each, I bought a tiny Vincent Van Gogh jigsaw which will be made into something interesting when I think of something interesting.....suggestions on a postcard please. We did the book shops (surprise) and we all were a little tired and fed up when Simon was trying to spend his birthday money in Waterstones so the children and I went back to the car so that I could feed Nathaniel. Well, Nathaniel had a boobie, we had a drink and we talked about coroners and hanging people and played I-spy for a bit. We got bored and opened the goodie bags. Sorry Nathaniel......

School Shoes, Argh!

Blimey what a weekend it has been so far!

Elizabeth came home from school on Friday with very knackered shoes (typical as it's nearly the end of the year) so we promptly put them in the bin and said we'd get a new pair. Well off Elizabeth and I went on Saturday morning to our favourite discount shoe store (Clarks and Start Rite seconds so much much cheaper) only to have no new shoes after an hour of trying many on. She did get some new slippers though and we joked that she may have to wear them to school on Tuesday!! After spending Saturday afternoon searching local towns for shoes with three tired children in tow, (Simon was in bed with a very fat face as he had visited the dentist on Friday as he had a 'bit of a tooth ache' and they had yanked out one of his wisdom teeth. The mad man that he is went back to work and although the tooth ache has gone he now has face/headache instead. Poor baby!!) and trying to distract their attention from an old man masturbating on a bench, not pleasant but I think it was only me that saw, ugh! We still had no school shoes, Francesca did have some nice pink sandals but that wasn't quite the plan!!

So this morning we set off to Deepdale in Preston to the big huge Brantano but still no shoes! So in desperation we went to Clarks and paid full price for shoes (haven't done that since their first shoes)! While we were there it seemed bad manners not to visit Borders and Hobbycraft, so we now have lots of new books, mostly for the children and Simon, and I have some beautiful yarn and some amazing brads that were really cheap and kind of leaped into my arms and begged to be bought and some rubber stamps that were too cheap not to buy!!

The plan tomorrow is to visit Lancaster Castle as we didn't manage it last time as Elizabeth was ill. Lets see if we make it this time.....

Sea Breeze

More bracelets have been created.....

Here at the top is another Knit-Wit creation, four flowers in baby blue and lemon yarn with baby/icy blue button centres mounted on a woven wristband with a button closure that matches the button centres. Ideas for a name would be welcome (was thinking 'Sherbert Lemon' but the blue doesn't make you think of sweeties)!
Next down is a single flower on a smaller plaited wristband with a pink flower that has a pearly purple button centre. Can you guess who I made this for? Yep, you guessed it, it belongs to Francesca!
At the bottom of this picture is a bracelet I made last night. It has a navy woven wristband with button closure and I have filled it with glass beads in shades of blue and green. I have called it 'Sea Breeze' and I was going to say it will soon be available to buy in my etsy shop but I have just sold it, hurrah! :-)





You will have noticed Nathaniel trying to muscle in on the action above and here he is preparing my goods for their photo;





As 'Sea Breeze' has sold and I've had so much good feedback about it I have gathered together some more coordinated beads and this will be turned into 'Fired Earth' and will be on etsy tomorrow, unless it sells sooner!!
